Brook M Thompson @ Lower Lodge

Saturday April 27th 12:15-1 pm at City Park’s Lower Lodge to hear Brook M Thompson speak on the Klamath Dams Removal and the Future of Salmon.

Brook Thompson is a Yurok and Karuk Native American from Northern California. Brook fights for water and Native American rights through public speaking, academic research, and frontline activism. Brook has a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Portland State University, an M.S. in Environmental Engineering from Stanford, and is now a Ph.D. student at UC Santa Cruz where she studies how Indigenous Knowledge can be better implemented into California water policy. Thompson’s goal is to bring together water rights and Native American knowledge through engineering, public policy, and social action.

Patty Grantham and Michael McGill supports the Siskiyou Prescribed Burn Association. Patty is a forester with experience in fuels treatment in Siskiyou County and the northwest US. Michael has a B.S. in Environmental Science and is a Shasta Valley RCD forestry/fuels project manager.

Cara Sauders @ Playground in City Park

Saturday April 27th 1:30-2:15 pm, meet at the Playground at City Park for a Family Nature Walk led by Cara Saunders. Learn About Local Plants and Their Healing Abilities. This will be a fun walk for the whole family with a plant quiz at the end where you can receive a $2 coupon to her shop!

Cara Saunders is an herbalist, gardener, mother, and is also the founder and owner of Bear Wallow Herbs. S grows or wild harvests nearly all of the herbs used to create her herbal remedies, which will be available for sale at the event,

Reneé Camila @ Lower Lodge

Saturday April 27th 2:00-2:50 pm, Lower Lodge at City Park. Join Renée for the 20 minute documentary Saging the World followed by a short discussion that contextualizes the film within our county. The presentation also includes an exploration of bioregional plants with similar properties to White Sage, including Sagebrush, Cedar, and Rosemary. This award-winning documentary was produced by Rose Ramirez, Deborah Small, and the California Native Plant Society to foster awareness and inspire action for White Sage.

Renée Camila (she/ella) is a bilingual clinical herbalist, traditional birthworker, folk educator, and mother. As the daughter of Nicaraguan immigrants, her practice La Yerba Buena Herbs draws from her Mediterranean and Indigenous (Chorotega) ancestry.  As a traditional healing practitioner, she recognizes the interconnectivity between the health of the individual, the health of their communities, and the health of the Earth. She is one of the hosts of The Herbal Highway, co-founder of Now and Then Herb School, and member of the Seeds of Ancestral Renewal (SOAR), Siskiyou Chapter.

Saturday April 27th 3:00-3:30 pm in the Lower Lodge at City Park. Brandy McDaniels will speak about Sáttítla Medicine Lake Highlands National Monument Designation – Sign the Petition!

Sáttítla National Monument Campaign – The Pit River Nation conceived of and is leading the effort to establish a national monument for Sáttítla which is also known as the Medicine Lake Highlands. This long-term protection solution is needed to fend off the ongoing threat of industrial development, water degradation, and destruction of this continuously used Sacred Tribal Cultural Landscape. Please stop by to learn more about how you can help protect and preserve the magnificent values and resources this landscape contributes to the overall region, a significant portion of California, and the Indigenous people that rely on it.
