We are excited to announce that we have re-launched our Forest & Watershed Watch – Protecting Biodiversity project at the Mount Shasta Bioregional Ecology Center! We are looking to hire someone to join our team as a Project Manager! Our small but feisty grassroots organization has been in operation over 30 years with a focus to honor, protect and restore our world-renowned mountain environment.
 
About the Position:
  • This position, like the project, is part-time and grant funded.
  • Pay is DOE.
  • The objective of this project is to monitor timber sales and other proposals in the Mount Shasta area that infringe on the forest environment, and advocate for forest health, biodiversity, watersheds, and other natural resources.  
  • Position open on a rolling basis until filled.
Job Duties Include, but are not limited to:
  • Participating in environmental review processes and monitoring for new proposals,
  • Reviewing agency analyses and plans, field truthing, and providing input where needed,
  • Monitoring the Forest Service Schedule of Proposed Actions and other notices of new projects in order to evaluate impacts and provide comments early in the environmental review processes,
  • Creating outreach materials for effective public education and presentations (e.g. articles & reports), and
  • Some traveling required. 
Desired Qualifications:
  • 2+ years of experience in environmental advocacy, including knowledge of how to work with federal and California natural resource law and policy, in particular NEPA, CEQA, the Northwest Forest Plan, Land and Resource Management Plans, and the Clean Water Act,
  • A background in ecological processes, conservation biology, timber harvesting, and watershed implications,
  • Bachelor’s degree in Forestry, Conservation Biology, or a related field. Master’s is a plus.
  • Experience in creating educational materials,
  • An aptitude for communicating verbally and in writing with the public, government agencies, coworkers and management,
  • Good critical thinking/analytical skills,
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.),
  • Strong writing skills
  • Valid driver’s license,
  • Willingness to travel during the week for site visits.
