On April 16, 2020, Michelle Berditschevsky, founder of the Mount Shasta Bioregional Ecology Center and Janie Painter, director of Medicine Lake Citizens for Quality Environment submitted comments to the California Department of Water Resources on the Delta Tunnel Conveyance EIR Scoping.
As noted, “The original twin tunnels could have dewatered the Sacramento River in some years and seasons prior to meeting the delta. Without inclusion of the entire Sacramento watershed in the analysis the state will be essentially leaving out critical information on downstream flows. Ultimately this would overestimate the available water for conveyance in the tunnel and could lead to increased interest in raising Shasta Dam, which would further impact the communities in our region.
