Please make your voice heard, and don’t let other people decide for you! Click here to view the California Secretary of State’s Voter Registration Page, including instructions for registering online here. The ACLU People Power California web page has additional voting resources.

You can also pick up a paper voter registration application at the county elections office, libraries, Department of Motor Vehicles Offices or US Post Offices. It is important that your voter registration application be filled out completely and be postmarked or hand-delivered to your county elections office in time to meet the proper deadlines before the election.

You have until February 17, 2020 to register for the March 3, 2020 Presidential Primary election. People who miss that deadline can vote, but will need to appear in person to the County Clerk’s office. The Siskiyou County Clerk’s website has more information about voter registration and current elections. Her elections page also has information for people interested in running for elective office. In addition, there will be a runoff election for the 1st District Assembly seat,to be held November 5, 2020.

PLEASE NOTE: If you are not 100% sure you are registered correctly (if you have moved, changed your name or party affiliation, etc.), it is very important to check this information has been recorded correctly to prevent being denied your right to participate in voting. If you are registered outside of Siskiyou County, you may be able to check your voter registration status online. You can call the Registrar of Voters at 530.842.8084 to make sure your name, address, party affiliation and status are up to date. Errors do happen – we’ve heard of “independent” people ending up associated with the American Independent Party, when what they had wanted to do was register “No  Party Preference”.

There’s also been confusion about polling places – in Siskiyou County many precincts are “vote by mail” and it is very important to understand when to expect your ballot and how to mail it, or turn it in before the election.

Citizens will have many important issues before them in upcoming elections. While as a nonprofit organization, we are prohibited from endorsing or campaigning on behalf of specific candidates, we do encourage all citizens to register to vote, become informed on the issues, and participate in the processes of positive change.
