Ecology Center Harvest Dinner
UPDATE:
Unfortunately, we must cancel the Harvest Dinner planned for this Saturday, October 13 at Mount Shasta City Park. Ticket sales fell far short of what was needed to put on this event. We do very much appreciate your purchase, and will be issuing you a refund shortly.
We hope you will consider engaging through our “Become A Mountain Patron” monthly giving campaign on the Patreon platform: https://www.patreon.com/MountShastaEcology.org – patrons may choose from several levels providing special access, insight and rewards.
Also, we will be part of the North State Giving Tuesday campaign – https://www.northstategives.org/mountshastaecology which adds funds to annual contributions that are made on Tuesday, November 27, just after Thanksgiving.
That day, we will host a party and presentations at our offices from 4 to 7 pm. You are very much invited to join us.
Again, thank you for your Harvest Dinner ticket purchase and support of the Mount Shasta Bioregional Ecology Center.
Each fall, the Mount Shasta Bioregional Ecology Center joyfully brings the community together to enjoy local, seasonal foods, and an inspirational speaker. This year, we are collaborating with local chef Cyndi Colvin, formerly of Avalon Catering, who has been creating delicious meals of all types in our area for over 30 years!
Mezzos (appetizers) served before the meal are:
- Rosemary Marcona Almonds
- Mediterranean Olive Platter
- Smen Za’Atar Flatbread
- White Bean & Garbanzo Hummus
The main entree, served buffet style, will include fall vegetables with legumes, plus Jeweled Rice with Pomegranate, Cherry and Pistachio.
Also, for a meat option, the dinner will feature Roasted Chicken Baharat accompanied by the Moroccan spice Ras El Hanout. We’ll be serving wine, tea and water, with additional drink tickets available for purchase.
For FUNdraising, there will be a dessert auction after the meal. Do you have a special pumpkin-cheesecake recipe, gluten-free snickerdoodles, or famous lemon bars? Bring them in to help us raise funds for ongoing programs! To help with our planning, please email us at contact@mountshastaecology.org to let us know about your dessert offering.
The dinner’s highlight for sure will be our keynote speaker Stephen Brooks, founder and, since 1995, primary Director of the Punta Mona Center for Sustainable Living and Education in Costa Rica, where he also helped to create La Ecovilla permaculture community.
Stephen observed the problems facing small farmers and communities in Central America and Costa Rica due to mega-monoculture agricultural practices and loss of dynamic community. He strives to provide students, landowners, businesses, and neighbors regenerative solutions and strategies to increase quality of life.
He is an avid and passionate ethnobotanist, plant collector, permaculture designer and educator, operator of education environmental and botanical tours, implements permaculture gardens and food forests on home and hundred acre scales, and community developer. He is the co-founder of both Medicines from the Edge: a Tropical Herbal Convergence and the Envision Festival.
SPECIAL OFFER: We’ve just launched our new “Become a Mountain Patron” campaign on Patreon! As an alternative to buying tickets here through Eventbrite, everyone signed up by October 1 at the highest “Summit” ($100) level of patronage on Patreon (via the link in this paragraph, above) will also receive two tickets to the Harvest Dinner!
Please join us, and hear more about our new fire and forestry programs and our ongoing work. The mountain thanks you!
