The US Forest Service has announced its “McBride Plantations” (follow this link to learn more or subscribe to USFS updates) project to: “Thin, masticate, prescribed burn plantations & construct fuelbreak to increase resilience to insects & disease (and fire). Maintain existing roads; use unauthorized roads temporarily, then decommission. Collaboration with public will be done.”
The project will take place alongside the Everett Memorial Highway just outside of Mt. Shasta city. The following are Dr. Arielle Halpern’s comments on this project:
