Welcome to our year-end Giving Tuesday Fundraising drive to support the Ecology Center’s grassroots work to protect and restore the amazing natural areas and water sources in our region.

What is North State Giving Tuesday?

Giving Tuesday is a nationwide campaign to support nonprofit organizations that make their communities better. After Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and “Cyber Monday” comes Giving Tuesday— a day to give thanks, two days of deals, and a day to give back.

How does North State Giving Tuesday work?

This year the Shasta Regional Community Foundation is hosting a 12-hour online giving event to benefit nearly 100 nonprofits in Shasta and Siskiyou Counties, including Mount Shasta Ecology Center.

From 6 AM to 6 PM on Tuesday, November 29th,  donors can go to the giving portal at www.northstategives.org and donate a minimum of $10 to the Ecology Center and any other local nonprofits you may choose to support.

Your donations will go further thanks to an $80,000 incentive pool that will be shared by all participating nonprofits, based on their proportion of total funds raised. There are also $500 cash prizes to be awarded to randomly selected nonprofits every hour of the fundraising event!

What will the Ecology Center do with funds raised on North State Giving Tuesday?

Our goal is to raise $15,000 on Giving Tuesday – this is the equivalent of a major grant for us and will allow Mount Shasta Ecology to continue our important work to:

  • Develop our Forest Fuels to Firewood concept into a grant-ready project  This is a future program that is currently in the concept stage and we need some seed funding to develop this exciting idea into a fully-formed program. The idea is to provide low-cost firewood to local residents in need, using the wood from fuels reduction thinning activities in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest. This wood would otherwise go to waste in burn piles. The program we envision would provide employment for wood cutters/splitters, low-cost firewood, and education about the importance of sustainable forest management.
  • Save the Medicine Lake Highlands from industrial geothermal development and fracking
  • Protect and restore Mount Shasta’s natural and cultural treasures through the H.O.M.E. project
  • Continue our support of local grassroots efforts to protect landscapes and source waters in the Mt. Shasta area

All funds raised on Giving Tuesday are unrestricted, so they can be put to work immediately where most needed, unlike grants which must be used for specific activities and programs.  Raising unrestricted funds will allow us to quickly respond to emerging issues and deal with situations as they come up. Giving Tuesday donors will receive an emailed receipt of their tax-deductible donations from the Shasta Regional Community Foundation and a thank you note from the Ecology Center.
