Planting Natives for Wildlife Workshop Series
Join Mount Shasta Area Audubon, Mt Shasta Public Library, and Mount Shasta Bioregional Ecology Center for a free series of workshops about landscaping with native plants and creating wildlife habitats in our own yards, no matter the size.
Tuesdays in July, August, and September from 6-8pm @ Mt. Shasta Library unless otherwise noted.
July 28th Nature’s Best Hope filmed presentation by entomologist and author Dr. Doug Tallamy.
August 25th: Landscaping with Native Plants
August 27th at Singing Rock Ranch with Audubon – Can a (Native) Pollinator Garden Save the World? This is a bonus event hosted by the Mt. Shasta Audubon Society!
September 29th: Ethical Seed Collecting (Location TBD as we get closer – sign up to get updates!)
1st Workshop on July 28th: Nature’s Best Hope Watch Party & Discussion – For our first workshop, we will gather to watch an inspiring recorded talk given by Doug Tallamy, author of Nature’s Best Hope, Bringing Nature Home, How Can I Help?: Saving Nature with Your Yard, among many more. Afterwards we will discuss what we learned and talk about some examples of small ways you too can Save Nature with your own yard, no matter the size! We will also have a seed swap featuring native plant seeds so feel free to bring native seeds to swap or donate, but it’s not required.
2nd Workshop on August 25th: Landscaping with Native Plants – For our 2nd workshop, we will discuss landscaping with native plants. We’ll learn about our local keystone plant species, how to find them, and how to add them to our landscapes to optimize the benefits for us, the plants, and wildlife… In other words, how to save nature in our own yards!
3rd Workshop on September 29th: Ethical Seed Collecting (Location TBD as we get closer – sign up to get updates!)– For our 3rd workshop, we will go out into the wild and learn how to identify native plants in different seasons, what to look for when harvesting, how to process, save, and prepare the seeds for planting!
Bonus Workshop on Thursday, August 27th at Singing Rock Ranch with Audubon – Can a (Native) Pollinator Garden Save the World? Is it true that the plants we choose for our landscape matter? Why should we care about native bees, butterflies, moths, flies, wasps, beetles, and hummingbirds? Come to this talk and join in the conversation about some of the simple things we can do to create a world that is more vibrant, sustainable, and beautiful! Liability Waivers
Our events require a General Liability Waiver to be signed. MSBEC (Mount Shasta Bioregional Ecology Center) has 2 types of Waivers. If one is required it will be provided in the Registration sign up form.
The General Liability and Photo Release document includes the photo/video release; however, you can specifically opt out of photo/video while still opting into releasing liability and attending the event. Your photo/video choices may be selected in the Registration sign up form. The Community Fire Resiliency Program waiver is specifically for the Fire Resiliency programs and it too will be integrated into the Registration sign up form for any Community Fire Resiliency Program events.
Please read the contents of the waiver here or within the Registration sign up form. On your sign up form for the event there will be a required checkbox, with the words I have read and agreed to the contents of this waiver. If you agree, then please make sure the appropriate checkbox is checked and that your initials are added. If you do not agree you will not be able to complete the form. Selecting the checkbox and adding your initials will be a digital signature agreement to the terms in the waiver document.
Thank you for your patience with this process. It replaces the physical (paper) form that we previously asked you to sign at each event.
