Mount Shasta Ecology is seeking 2-3 new board members to lead us to our next level of success. Since 1988, this strong, grassroots organization has mobilized people inspired to preserve, protect and restore our world-renowned mountain environment. We are excited about our purpose and our future, and it’s time for fresh perspectives. With a new anti-environment administration in Washington, DC, we’ll have to face and overcome new threats, with strong leadership. We need serious people for a serious role – which doesn’t mean it won’t be fun and rewarding.
Our work is vital: partnering with native tribes and local activists; and fighting corporate resource extraction and other challenges by innovating, organizing, speaking and educating from a place of high integrity and sound science. You’ll also help us garner resources and form positive coalitions that will safeguard this unique mountain area for generations to come.
Ideal board members are experienced leaders with a commitment and passion for our mission. You’ll have a professional or self-taught, solid understanding of environmental issues, a commitment to strong, fact-based scientific truth-seeking and the ability to help shape policies affecting the natural and cultural resources of the Mount Shasta bioregion. A legal or nonprofit background would be great. You don’t have to be a local resident; you can join remote meetings. One of our goals is to spread the word far and wide, throughout the Bay Area, Southern Oregon and beyond. Diversity on the board is important, and of course we’re looking for someone who enjoys connecting with donors and granting agencies, and helping us create enjoyable fundraising events, often outdoors!
The expected time commitment is about 10 hours a month, varying depending on issues and interest. There are regular monthly, weekday evening meetings and other related activities. Following through on commitments, and being responsive to communications is essential. While there is no set term for board membership, we request at least a one year anticipated period of service.
